Friday, February 18, 2022 –Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame helped his Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta in arresting a man from Rift Valley who was transporting a questionable sum of sh 238 million to Kenya.

Sources have told Homenews.co.ke that the Rwandan intelligence community got wind of the Kenyan man in possession of illicit cash; what led to President Paul Kagame visiting Nairobi to brief President Uhuru Kenyatta on the matter.

It is reported that a former Cabinet Secretary in Uhuru’s Government and who is facing fraud charges in court is said to have been the contact person with the suspect, Paul Kemboi.

Those in the know say the flight to Somalia was a decoy as the money had been moved to Burundi after the movers found it difficult pushing it to Kigali.

Kemboi, who was released yesterday morning on one condition that he returns at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA this morning with full details about the owner of the money, is reported to have finally told detectives that the “money belonged to a senior politician”.

“We are waiting for the man to give us full details about the senior politician he claims to have sent him to collect the money,” said a senior detective privy to the case.

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) agents at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday February 17 arrested Kemboi with $2 million (sh 238 million) in cash.

Mr. Paul Kemboi was arrested on arrival via JKIA flight from Bujumbura, Burundi. He left Kenya on January 15 to Somalia, flew to Uganda and later Bunjumbura before jetting back to Nairobi on the same day evening with the huge sums of cash.

The money is said to have been wired from Dubai and was supposed to be collected in Kigali, Rwanda but the Rwandan intelligence community got wind of this, quickly passing the information to Kenya’s government who then remained on alert.
