Tuesday, June 18, 2024 –Opposition leader Raila Odinga has reacted to a clip in which a girl in her early twenties is seen asking him to stay at home as young Kenyans take to the streets against their government.
In the now viral video clip from Nairobi CBD anti-Finance Bill protests, a Gen Z girl can be seen beating her chest and pleading with Raila Odinga not to come out for the protest.
She goes on to firmly tell the opposition leader that it is now time for the young Kenyans start working on their own after Odinga’s many years of defending the country from bad leadership.
“Agwambo this is a message to you usitokee, stay at home. Agwambo please stay at home. We know what you tried to do for Kenyans. We saw your efforts. We are out now ourselves. Let us do it now. We miss you but don’t even come outside. Don’t come outside. This is a message for you,” the Gen Z girl firmly says.
In a clear response, Mr. Odinga, through his social media handles, said, he remains to be a proud father as he sees young men and women stand for their rights.
“I’m a very proud father today. Congratulations to all those who bravely stood up for their rights,” Raila Odinga noted.
Kenyans including civil rights groups and activist, today Tuesday, poured on the streets in protest against the Finance Bill 2024.
This pressure, finally, saw President William Ruto convene a Parliamentary Group Meeting at the Statehouse where they agreed to remove certain taxes including the motor vehicle tax that had fetched a lot of criticism from the public.
