Saturday, June 15, 2024 -Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hinted at countering government of President William Ruto amid back and forth with section of leaders within the ruling party.
In a statement shared yesterday Friday June 14, the second in command warned those attempting to belittle him saying he can also make a decision and ask masses to go in the opposite direction.
According to the DP, some politicians in power see him as a person without any influence when, in reality, he has a deeper understanding of what the ground wants.
“A lot of people are belittling me by calling me a villager, there is something I can say but I don’t want to say it now. I can tell my people to go in a certain direction and they will listen to me. My people you know I cannot lead you to the river, so be patient as I still do my analysis.
“I am not very smart but am also not that idiot; there is something I know,” he said.
Of late, DP Gachagua has been on the receiving end from his own party members who have called him out for being tribalist.
For Instance, Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, has, not once, checked the DP whom he has described as a villager who does not want to embrace nationalism.
“Kenya is for all of us, there is no one who is more Kenyan than the other, self-entitlement must be checked or risk fragmenting the nation. Myopic views, arrogance, chest-thumping, big man syndrome, personal greed, and egocentrism are gradually driving a wedge, alienating and sidelining the rest of the nation,” wrote Ichung’wah.
Additionally, Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa is on record saying Gachagua was beaten by Prof Kithure Kindiki in running mate position but President William Ruto, through mercies, gave him(Gachgua) the DP position.
