Wednesday, August 24, 2022 –United Democratic Alliance UDA Party-allied Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has denied a court case accusing him of shooting Brian Olunga during their recent political rally.
The MP-elect today Wednesday August 24 in a Kakamega court, pleaded not guilty to the charges of shooting dead Mr. Olunga – an aide to his opponent and DAP-Kenya’s Brian Khaemba.
The late Olunga died from profuse bleeding after the MP reportedly aimed a fatal shot at him inside a campaign car.
But even as Barasa told the court that he was not involved in the heinous act, Forensic Crime Investigations Unit established that he was at the scene of crime and that his gun actually killed the late.
As if this is not enough, ballistic experts fetched from the DCI National Forensic Laboratory, also linked Barasa’s firearm to the killer shot that claimed Olunga’s life on that day.
Furthermore, the police disclosed that the bullet fragments collected at the scene matched those recovered from the deceased’s body and, therefore, not easy to de-link the suspect with the murder.
This, therefore, saw the Directorate of Criminal Investigation DCI promise to press criminal charges against the vocal Bungoma politician.
A statement from the DCI indicated that it had been found that all the evidence collected were pointing at the politician who has been tagged ‘the prime suspect’ in the chilling murder.
