Saturday, January 22, 2022 –Senator Moses Wetang’ula is not sure about his next political move after their One Kenya alliance started falling apart.
In an interview with a local media yesterday Friday January 21, the Ford Kenya Party leader revealed his willingness to reunite with Odinga but at the same time said it’s still not yet time to make that declaration.
The Bungoma senator hinted at reuniting with ODM Party’s Azimio la Umoja ahead of the 2022 general election, just less than 200 days left, saying in politics nothing is cast on stone.
“In politics, you never say never but sometimes Jesus said, the body is willing but the spirit is weak,” Wetang’ula told the Nation newspaper.
Reminding himself of the intriguers that led to his removal from the Minority leader position at the Senate, Wetang’ula disclosed that this is part of the things that are holding him back anytime he thinks about working with Odinga again.
“What Raila and his team did to me in the Senate was so humiliating and definitely, it hurt many people I represent. I have been winning elections in my constituency and county and those are people who believe in me,” Wetang’ula explained.
The senator went ahead to, however, note that it was not going to be healthy to hold permanent grudges with the ODM Party leader because better leaders had forgiven each other before.
“As an individual who suffered in their hands, and as a nation that has been humiliated at their hands, we forgive freely but the capacity to forget is minimal,” Wetang’ula recollected the former president Jomo Kenyatta’s words.
And speaking about their OKA alliance, the senator defended that it was not formed to interfere with Odinga’s quest for power.
“It is foolhardy to form a party on the basis of aspersions because when you are carrying the heavy burdens in the political landscapes in Kenya, the burdens will be too heavy,” Wetang’ula said.
He reminded Raila and his ODM Party that he had handled his past coalition partners in a much disrespectful manner which still lingers in their mind fresh. He reignited the political parties fund which he claimed monies received by their 2013 CORD coalition was yet to be distributed to all member parties.
The Senator went ahead to accept that only two contestants Ruto and Raila are top as of now but added that there is still a possibility of OKA changing the narrative.
