Saturday, December 18, 2021 –Power is up for grabs. President Uhuru Kenyatta has told opposition leaders during his Mombasa tour.
Speaking on Friday Decemebr 17 infront of his foe-turned-all Raila Odinga, the president advised those seeking to succeed him to prove to the voters that they are worth the job so that they could be elected into office in 2022.
He cautioned that it was not going to be possible for him to hand over power to a loser because that is not the legacy he wants to leave behind.
Speaking during the commissioning the Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL) Mombasa at Mtongwe on Friday, Uhuru told the politicians jostling to become presidents that it would be wrong for anyone to wait for him to give them free power saying power belongs to Kenyans and they will give whoever they deem fit.
Uhuru insinuated that the next leadership of the country is up for grabs and it’s upon those interested in it to out do each other when there is still enough time. He advised that for anyone to lead this country he/she must be ready to grab their position and hold tight onto it.
“Uongozi ni watu ni kuchukuwa wanachukua sio kupatiwa unapatiwa. Kama unangoja kupatiwa, basi no problem, utangojea mpaka muwe wazee na wengine wakuje.
“You must take it (leadership), you must grab it, you must move with it and you must take ownership,” the president said.
This statement seemed to contradict the president’s earlier assertions that he has his preferred candidate whom he wants to make sure power remains in his hand.
