Saturday, March 9, 2024 –Majority leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah visited Opposition leader Raila Odinga at Capitol Hill offices, Nairobi.
He was leading the Kenya Kwanza delegation that represented the government side in the National dialogue held at the Bomas of Kenya to make peace with the opposition.
“There is a time I couldn’t step foot here at the Capitol Hill but I am glad you your excellency welcomed us here with warm heart,” Ichung’wah commented.
In his address, he noted that, going further, election competition should not be allowed to culminate into street protests like it has happened before.
“Political competition should never degenerate into enmity. The National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report is a negotiated truce document, aimed at ensuring that our country never again descends into violence stemming from political competition. I extend my sincere gratitude to H.E. President William Ruito and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga,” he announced.
He lauded the two political leaders in the country for demonstrating political maturity, tolerance and nationality in entrusting them with preparing a report that will help restore sanity in the country.
“I thank you for entrusting us with the responsibility of navigating our nation through the upheaval we faced. Their demonstration of leadership and statesmanship, by prioritizing the nation’s interests over parochial concerns, has been truly commendable,” said Ichung’wah
Together with co-chair Kalonzo Musyoka and their respective teams, today Saturday March 9, they presented the NADCO Report to H.E President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi, before moving to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at Capitol Hill, Nairobi.
