Saturday, May 21, 2022 –Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is inching closer to clearing Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to vie for presidency, separately.
This is after the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) wrote a letter meant to stop the electoral organization IEBC from clearing the Wiper Party leader due to legal reasons.
ORPP wrote to IEBC asking it not to clear Mr. Musyoka citing un-exhausted channels which the party should first go through.
However, the Wafula Chebukati-led IEBC argued that it will clear Kalonzo to run for presidency should they establish that he had complied with what the law requires.
According to the Political Parties Act, a party seeking to exit a coalition must do so through the mechanisms provided for by the coalition.
In the case of Azimio-One Kenya, any party seeking to leave must issue a 90-day notice after which the party organs are supposed to sit and determine whether to grant the exit request or not.
The matter has seen Azimio la Umoja leaders allied to Raila Odinga point their guns at a section of Wiper Party politicians for being behind the Kalonzo political puzzle for their own selfish reasons.
Professor Makau Mutua, On Friday May 20, took it upon himself to question, three lawmakers – Mutula Kilonzo Junior(Makueni), Enoch Wambua(Kitu) and Dan Maanzo(MP Makueni) on why they were hell bend on misleading Musyoka.
“Kalonzo has three advisors who have misled him. The trio are not good for him. The three are ruining his political career and future. He should ditch them. Democracy is about give-and-take. This is what extremists don’t understand,” Makau stated.
This saw Senator Mutula sharply differ with Makau, arguing that Azimio was operating in complete secrecy and did not mean well for Mr. Musyoka and, therefore, they will not just watch as this happens.
“Picking on the three of us will not get you sympathy. If you doubt, come to Wote,” Mutula wrote as Wambua reminded Makau about the controversial 2017 deal that was also aborted by Odinga who was supposed to back Kalonzo in 2022.
“Prof, in 2017 you deliberately misadvised Kalonzo and witnessed the signing of a deal with Raila which you later disowned. You have no locus to lecture us on how to relate with our leader. You are paid to advise Raila. And you have already advised him that he does not need Kalonzo,” Wambua reminisced.
This back and forth is happening at the time Kalonzo is taking a short break from the ongoing high-octane politics.
