Making the confirmation, his lawyer Kioko Kilukumi said his client had been released on Sunday evening.

He, however, did not expound much on what transpired throughout his arrest which created anxiety following the spread of the CCTV video showing the chilling abduction scene.

Upto now, nobody knows why the billionaire sugar industrialist was dramatically abducted and who the persons were.

On Sunday August 27, during his Bungoma County tour, President William Ruto discussed the conduct of Rai, publicly.

He warned that cartels which have been messing the sugar sector in the country will face his full wrath in his bid to protect the ailing industry.

He singled out Jaswant Rai as a man on the spotlight in Western Kenya when it comes to sugar business deals.

“Don’t be worried, I am alert to make sure everything will be okay. No one will meddle. Do not be worried about someone coming to talk to us. Someone was telling me Rai. Who is Rai? No, that is not possible,” President Ruto stated.

Rai, who owns a number of sugar factories spread out in the larger Western Region, has also been on the frontline jostling to take over Mumias Sugar which is already on its death bed.
