Tuesday, April 13, 2021 -Migori Governor Okoth Obado is planning to introduce another political party in Nyanza Region which he wants to use to vie for Presidency.
The controversial Governor who is at crossroads with the dominating Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party leader Raila Odinga, recently announced that he will be taking over the leadership of Peoples’ Democratic Party which belongs to Former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara.
And now the Luo Council Of elders are deeply divided over the move, with sections supporting him while the rest arguing that this will puncture Odinga’s strength in their region.
It is reported that a section of elders led by Nyandiko Ongadi went to meet with Governor Obado at his Rapogi Village in Uriri Constituency with an aim of supporting his course which they say will break the monotony and monopoly of one party in their area.
However, some are reportedly not happy with the development promising to oppose it because it will not only reduce Odinga’s clout but also interfere with his 2022 succession plans.
Led by Migori County Chairman John Ben Omollo and his Homa Bay counterpart Joseph Ogada Gor, they claim a new political party in the area will be opposed by all means.
“We reject the statement made by the council members. Obado’s plans will divide the community,” Omollo stated.
Governor Obado has twice been elected on ODM Party ticket for Migori Governor seat. He is currently winding up his second term.
