Authorities in Kakamega are hunting down health workers who allegedly implanted contraceptives into minors without parental consent.
In an incident that took place in Lurambi area outskirts of Kakamega town on Thursday August 13 evening, the four underage girls aged between 12 and 15 were ordered to visit a local facility called Emurumba Health Center for free sanitary towels only to be implanted with the gadgets.
Though the motive is not yet clear, some locals point at a foul play with perpetrators having an intention to harm the four girls sexually.
“He told me to look for other girls together we went to the health center to be given sanitary pads,” a victim said adding that: “Each girl had been allocated to a doctor. On my part, he locked the room we were and requested me to lie facing up, stretched my hands then injected me.”
Area Police led by OCPD Elizabeth Kigai condemned the act with a promise to make sure the perpetrators are brought to book. She assured affected families of her full support until justice in achieved.
“Investigations are underway; we will make sure all the culprits are caught. The act could provoke these girls to have sex since they now dint care of getting pregnant,” she said.
She however took the opportunity to caution parents against leaving their children especially girls to walk freely without knowing where they were going and what they are invited in.
Parents, on their part, want the police to make sure justice is quickly found saying if the culprits will be left scot-free, there could be a repeat of the same in the area.
