Wednesday, May 18, 2022 –Wiper Democratic Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has resurfaced with one more demand before he can rejoin Azimio la Umoja coalition.
Just two days after he made public his intentions to run for the presidency alongside his less-known running mate, Andrew Sunkuli, Musyoka now wants Raila to officially include the Chief Minister position in their coalition agreement, for him to reconsider his exit.
Most of his allies among them Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, MP Dan Maanzo and Enoch Wambua hold the view that whatever Raila announced for Kalonzo at the Kenyatta International Convention Center KICC was yet to be formalised and this cannot be taken serious by their camp until a pen is put to a paper.
Makueni MP Dan Manzo has further noted that the Chief Minister post is not in the current Constitution and nothing will stop Raila from scrapping it after a few days in power.
They also want Odinga to state clearly in written that once Kalonzo takes the position, he cannot be sacked at will unless through necessary legislative channels.
“The promise they gave us is not in the constitution. In fact, the much they can do is to give him (Kalonzo) a cabinet minister docket then add additional duties to his docket.
“They knew that what Kalonzo wanted is to give him the running mate slot but they went ahead and gave it out to Karua yet Kalonzo has the votes,” Machakos MP Dan Maanzo, a close confidant of Kalonzo, told Capital News on Wednesday.
The Wiper boss who has constantly been making demands, bolted out of the hurriedly arranged marriage with Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga after it became apparent that he will not be picked for the position of the running mate and which has already been handed to Narc -Kenya Party boss Martha Karua.
Maanzo went ahead to clarify that, though, they are in the race as OKA, they will allow Kalonzo to continue holding talks, in the next two weeks, with Azimio leaders to see if they can iron out the grey areas.
