Monday, August 21, 2023 –Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, failed to show up at the Bomas venue where bipartisan talks are taking shape.
The Chairman of the talks from the Azimio la Umoja side did not arrive for the ongoing deliberations as was expected.
His absence stirred mixed reactions from sections of Kenyans as he is a key figure from the Azimio side who co-chairs the sessions alongside Majority leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah.
KANU’s Secretary for Political Affairs, Fredrick Okang’o, who has not been absent in all Azimio meetings, clarified that Mr. Musyoka had flown out of the country making it hard for him to be present in today’s session.
“Kalonzo had tendered his apologies to the committee as he is abroad for personal reasons,” Mr. Okang’o revealed.
His absence, according to Okang’o was fully communicated and that Azimio had found his replacement for the short period he will be away.
“The National Minority Leader is the substantial Deputy Co-chair. Once Kalonzo jets back into the country he will resume his position,” the official stated.
Asked where Kalonzo had flown to, Lawyer Okang’o chose to remain cagey with the details saying the Wiper Party leader would be back soon.
Both Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka are now out of the country. Raila jetted out to the United Kingdom UK where he will be for a full week. Interestingly, Uhuru Kenyatta is also in the UK with his family.
And on the Kenya Kwanza side, today Monday August 21, Kericho Senator Aron Cheruiyot was also conspicuously missing at Bomas with little explanation on his whereabouts.
“The National Dialogue Committee convened for its third meeting today at the historic Bomas of Kenya. Undeterred by the skepticism of critics, the committee remains steadfast in its pursuit of upholding the nation’s peace, tranquility, and stability,” Ichung’wah stated.
The Azimio-Kenya Kwanza talks are expected to take, at most, thirty days having entered its third day at Bomas Of Kenya, today.
