Wednesday, May 3, 2021 -Nominated MP Maina Kamanda has outlined conditions Raila Odinga must fulfill first to be able to get Mt. Kenya support for his 2022 presidential bid.
In his latest remarks, MP Kamanda sent betrayal signals to the ODM Party saying it will not be easy for anyone or any party from outside to be guaranteed support by the vote rich Central Region.
The former Starehe MP who was appearing on Inooro Tv on Monday May 3 morning stated that he was yet to decide on who he will be supporting for presidency; not even Raila Odinga can be assured of his support.
He distanced himself from claims that he had endorsed the ODM Party leader and said Mt. Kenya will only support whoever President Kenyatta will announce as his successor.
“Mr. Kamau, why are people running all over ‘saying that I have supported Raila’s 2022 bid? Am I the region’s spokesman? We as Mt Kenya region do what President Uhuru Kenyatta directs us and as of now, never be cheated that the Kikuyu Region has endorsed someone ahead of 2022,” Kamanda stated.
And when asked about the deputy president who is also eyeing the top seat, MP Kamanda detailed that Ruto was already making some strides by engaging Mt. Kenya leadership. He added that the only way anyone could end up getting their support will be through consultations so that the region could also be sure of their stake in next government.
He argued further that political support will not come without price and sacrifices from those vying for the top seat.
His Kieni counterpart also recently showed his willingness to only support anyone who can put Mt. Kenya’s interest at heart.
