Kapsabet Boys Student Bags sh 3.5M During Math Contest

Tuesday, May 23, 2023 – Kelvin Kemboi, from Kapsabet Boys High School, has won sh 3.5 million in secondary schools math contest.

This is after the Nandi County-based institution played host to a mathematics contest on Saturday, May 20 that was open to students from forms 1 to 4 across the country.

After marking the competitors’ papers, the examiners all came to the uniform conclusion that the Form Four student, Kelvin Kemboi, was the best overall.

Following his resounding win, the student was awarded a whopping sh 3.5 million in scholarship, and he will have an opportunity to study at any school of his choice abroad in Australia.

Oliver Toroitich, his teacher, spoke with pride that his student will most likely top the forthcoming 2023 Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education KCSE.

“It’s important to note that Kemboi won the same award in 2022 after beating all students while still in Form 3. We expect him to perform so well,” Mr Toroitich explained.

With over 4000 students contesting, the competition was aimed at creating a learning avenue and to showcase skills that include confidence and critical thinking.

It had two categories – individual and team – In the individual category, students were given a set of problems to solve in a limited amount of time.

It was followed by awards to the top three students in each category while, in the team category, students were divided into teams of four and given a set of problems to work on. The top three teams in each category were also awarded with prizes.

Finally, Kemboi would emerge the overall winner of the individual category hence bagging himself the multi-million academic scholarship.

He will be joining university of his choice in Australia.
