Sunday, July 9, 2023 -Narc-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua has responded to claims of emerging cracks in their Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition.
Speaking shortly after learning of viral rumours that her conspicuous absence in the latest opposition protests was as a result of the closeness of Mwangi wa Iria to Raila Odinga, Ms Karua said nothing could be further from the truth.
Sections had claimed that there was an emerging bad blood between Karua and the former Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria.
The Saturday rumours indicated that the two were finding it hard to work together in their Azimio camp.
For this reason, Raila was now accommodating Iria in the place of former Gichuki MP Martha Karua.
But in her response on Sunday July 9, Karua clarified that her recent absence at Kamukunji and a subsequent march to City Park had nothing to do with her fallout with Wa Iria.
She said that, just like Eugene Wamalwa and George Wajackoyah were in their area staging a similar Saba Saba protest, she was also busy leading a simultaneous show around her Mt Kenya Region.
Karua noted that she is also the brainchild of the popular 10 million signature drive meant to counter the controversial Finance Bill recently passed in Parliament and signed into law by President William Ruto.
Nonetheless, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has poured cold water on the whole signature exercise saying it amounts to wastage of time because the Constitution, as it is today, does not allow removal of sitting head of State through signature collection.
