Monday, July 10, 2023 –Narc-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua has demystified the myth about the ongoing signature collection drive.
Addressing the matter on Spice FM today Monday July 10 morning, Ms Karua explained that the only work the signatures can do for them is to help make Ruto’s leadership weak and to boost their quest for democracy and good leadership using the numbers.
“It will be a body count of the people who are supporting the cause,” she explained while stressing the main goal of the signature drive.
She added that the 10 million signatures will help support their ongoing anti-government protests country wide.
Karua’s explanation goes contrary to Eugne Wamalwa’s earlier assertion that the drive will help overthrow the current leadership from the throne.
With the 10 million strong, Ms Karua also said, Kenyans will have a legitimate platform to push this government to the wall.
“Since there is no place big enough to hold a general meeting of the Kenyan public, we will hold as many meetings as possible across the country.
“The people will hold their own referendum of signatures. By the time we hit the threshold of 10 million, we will know majority of Kenyans are speaking,” she stated noting that for a long time, Azimio was seen as not having the support of the people.
The former Gichuki MP further argued that the signatures will help the voiceless Kenyans to also have a way of speaking their mind through the collection.
Among the areas the opposition wants addressed include the stopping of implementation of the controversial Finance Bill Act 2023 which Ruto has already signed into law.
Karua also listed urgent need to respect the multipartyism in the country as well as fairness in picking the next Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC selection panel.
Asked about the weekly demonstrations, Karua said, she is in full support of her leader Raila Odinga since this government is not seeing the need to listen to the suffering Kenyans unless pressured on the streets.
Karua’s sentiments now corroborate that of Azimio spokesman Fredrick Okango who, a few days ago, stated that, with the 10 million signatures, Ruto’s government will by itself look illegitimate.
Okango added that the signatures will help show the government that power solely belongs to the people and only donated to leaders temporarily.
