Friday, December 29, 2023 -The outcome of the engagements with the Kenya Kwanza government has not borne fruit.
While speaking on Citizen Tv on Thursday December 28 night, Martha Karua noted that the talks which took 8 months got nowhere because the three issues (cost of living, electoral justice and respect for multiparty democracy) which Azimio wanted addressed were not properly addressed.
Additionally, Karua said the housing agenda was part of Azimio’s manifesto, but the difference between them and the Kenya Kwanza government is that “we would not have implemented it clumsily the way they have done”
“We would have targeted people who could afford it and designed it in a way that is of benefit to them,” added Karua.
Supporting her argument on how political parties are not being respected in Kenya, the Narc-Kenya boss accused Ruto of buying out members from other parties.
“While the talks were going on, they refused to let Jubilee change its whip, and when Speaker Wetangula finally yielded, he split Jubilee into two.
“During the same period, ODM had disciplinary proceedings; some members were axed, and within minutes, President Ruto received them, which is contempt of the highest order,” she went on.
Martha Karua also used the opportunity to protect former President Uhuru from attacks by government.
“We need to let Uhuru enjoy his retirement. If people are unable to think beyond him, why can’t they consult him? The Kenya Kwanza regime should go to him politely and ask him how to govern so that they can get over this thing,” she hit further.
Her speech on Citizen Tv angered a section of government allied-leaders among them Dennis Itumbi who said, Karua should learn to respect President William Ruto or go into exile.
