Saturday, October 14, 2023 –Chief of Defence Forces, Francis Ogolla, on Saturday October 14, apologised to President William Ruto over a slight oversight during salutation session.
In a video shared out, after failing to recognise Ruto’s wife, First Lady Rachel Ruto, during the Kenya Defence Forces Day celebrations in Embakasi, Nairobi, Ogolla came back to his senses and sought forgiveness from the president saying this was not intentional.
The KDF boss openly admitted making an error in his salutation remarks and requested to amend it at the end of his speech.
Earlier, he had only recognised the Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Aden Duale and his colleagues, and the Speaker of the Senate, Amason Kingi who was in attendance.
“Before I invite your excellency, I want to make an apology. When I was going through the salutations, I discovered I did not recognise her Excellency, the First Lady. I apologise to you, your excellency,” KDF boss Francis Ogolla stated while offering a salute as a gesture of respect to the President.
It is not the first time Ogolla and President William Ruto are encountering a drama, after taking office months ago, Ruto accused Ogolla of being part of the State security council team that almost denied him his Bomas of Kenya victory.
Ruto would, in the spirit of true leadership, however, later make a decision to forgive the officer whom he also appointed at the Chief of Defence in the army.
