Tuesday, June 22, 2021 -Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei’s murder case is still facing hurdles after it emerged that office of the Director of Criminal Investigations had not forwarded the file to the Director of Public Prosecution DPP.

Addressing the country on the matter on Monday June 21, DPP Noordin Haji pointed out many flaws in the case saying, upto now, he had not been furnished with the file which is supposed to come from his counterpart – the Director of Criminal Investigations DCI George Kinoti – who was the chief Investigator in the case.

Lack of the file and enough evidence has therefore made it hard for the DPP to pick up the case and subject it to a final prosecution.

“There is no Kenei’s case. The murder or suicide one? No, that file has never come to us,” Haji disclosed in an interview with Daily Nation.

The DPP indicated that this among many other factors may see the case which involved DP William Ruto’s office drag for long.

Sergent Kenei who was attached to Deputy President William Ruto was found dead at the height of the sh 40 billion firearm case which involved top Ruto ally Rashid Ecehsa. It was claimed that the murder could have had something to do with the case as Kenei was reportedly aware of what had transpired.

After the chilling murder, his lifeless body was in February 2020 discovered at his home in Imara Daima Nairobi prompting immediate investigations. DCI took over the investigation but faded out along the way. Kinoti, on camera, had ruled out suicide and said he was now investigating murder.

And on Monday June 21, a witness who is said to be a receptionist at DP William Ruto’s Harambes Annex office told Courts that Mr. Echesa was a frequent visitor at Harambee Annex where Ruto carries out his official activities. She added that the former Sports CS took two white men to the office of the DP before he was arrested for planning to defraud Polish businessmen.
