Tuesday, August 1, 2023 –Kenya Kwanza and Azimio coalition MPs have, in a rare move of solidarity, agreed to execute a mission, jointly.
On Tuesday August 1, Azimio MPs alongside those from Kenya Kwanza came to a single agreement that Kitui Member of Parliament MP Nimrod Mbai should be removed from his position as the chairperson of the Public Petitions Committee PPC.
The decision to ouster Mbai came when he was being expected to shed more light on the compensation for land and property acquired questionably by the State along Kibwezi-Kitui Road.
Interestingly and as usual, he was a no show in the sitting; what forced National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to issue new directives concerning the errant MP.
Speaker Wetang’ula, therefore, demanded the House leadership to explain Mbai’s notoriety and his repeated failure to show up in the House anytime he is required.
Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi would quickly ask majority leader Ichung’wah to move with speed to convene a legislation Committee so that to address the same issue with finality.
“I am suggesting to Ichung’wah that we move with speed and convene the Legislation Committee so that we can deal with the issue comprehensively,” MP Wandayi stated.
This saw MP Ichung’wah observe that Mbai had left Parliamentary leadership with no other option but to act decisively and remove him from the position so that it can be taken over by someone else who can deliver.
“Any chair who does not take their work seriously, members have the liberty to impeach that chair and elect someone else.
“I will be very available to ensure that happens,” the Kikuyu MP declared on the floor.
It would be established that only one member of the committee — Baringo Central MP Joshua Kandi — has been consistent in showing up when and when he is not needed.
