Friday, August 11, 2023Kenya Kwanza side has selected top lawyers to help them navigate the scheduled opposition-government talks to kick off on Monday, next week.

In a statement from the government side led by Majority leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah, four lawyers led by Lawyer Muthoni Thiankolu and Linda Musumba will be representing the KK side.

Homenews.co.ke today learnt that Thiankou is an advocate and senior lecturer at Kenyatta University School of Law.

Additionally, the Ichung’wah-led side also picked on Nick Biketi and Duncan Ojwang to help their team during the high-level discussions that both Mr. Odinga and President William Ruto wants to benefit from.

A cross check by the media established that Duncan Ojwang is an expert and senior lecturer at the African Nazarene University ANU, Nairobi.

Giving them instructions, the Kikuyu Constituency lawmaker told their lawyers to make sure that its side is represented well and that the talks remain transparent and within the laws of the country.

Interestingly, the KK side is still demanding that the meetings are live-streamed so that to ensure accountability to voters.

With their team now filled up, the 4-member legal team is set to face the Azimio technical side comprising embattled Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni and Adams Oloo. Kioni is a lawyer.

Mr. Oloo, on the other hand, is a senior lecturer of political science and Public Administration at the University of Nairobi UoN.

Azimio Bipartisan side will be led by Kalonzo Musyoka as government side puts its full trust in the Majority Leader, Kimani Ichung’wah.

The two sides are yet to agree on the talks surrounding the cost of living and the auditing of the last year’s general election that saw Azimio dismissed at the Supreme Court level.

Since then, Raila Odinga and his side have maintained that Ruto stole their victory; until servers are opened for further scrutiny.

On the other hand, Ruto’s side has dismissed the claims as wishful since elections were done and dusted in August and the clear winner declared at the Bomas Of Kenya.

This push and pull has seen the opposition resort to street protests that have almost stalled the economy.
