Friday, January 26, 2026 -Kenyans could soon be forced to part with an annual fee to renew their National Identity Cards IDs.
An insider in the Ministry of Interior has made confirmation that the configuration of microchips on Kenyan Identification Cards is in line with the existing global standards.
The source told Kenyawide.com that the microchips in the IDs will operate for a certain duration and, on expiry, there will be need to renew.
The source added that “the new configuration has nothing to do with Maisha Namba”.
As of now, the government is still adhering to the High Court’s ruling which halted its(Maisha Namba) rollout.
