Tuesday, August 1, 2023 –Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has lectured Mt. Kenya Region politicians over the planned talks between government and the opposition.
Speaking somewhere in Kakamega County on Monday July 31, the outspoken senator asked fellow leaders from the Central part of the country to support the ongoing talks without excess reservations.
Khalwale wondered why a section of Mt. Kenya Region leaders are demanding that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua be consulted by the two top leaders Raila Odinga and William Ruto before talks can start.
“I support the dialogue. Let Raila and Ruto sit in one room, fight themselves from there as long as we civilians remain safe.
“And for those leaders who think the dialogue is wrong or must have Gachagua in it, then kindly front Gachagua’s name to be part of the five representatives from our side. What is the problem? Khalwale stated.
He was reacting to the increasing concerns from part of United Democratic UDA Party leaders who are still doubting the sincerity in the planned talks.
On Monday July 31 evening, Majority leader n the national Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah claimed that Azimio was slowly changing the agenda of the talks and veering off towards inclusion in government.
“The cost of living was a smokescreen to hoodwink Kenyans. It was only a mobilization tool. Azimio has finally come out from the shadows demanding for ‘INCLUSIVITY’ in government. This is nothing else but nusu mkate,” he claimed.
However, Azimio have refuted plans to enter into the William Ruto government through another Handshake as was done in the Uhuru era.
They have since listed a number things they want addressed in the talks among these being the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC. They also want respect to democracy as well as a review into the last years general elections.
Azimio also want the puzzle surrounding the cost of living in the country unraveled.
