Tuesday, February 1, 2022 –Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party has distanced itself from Boni Khalwale’s claims that grassroots leadership of the party had endorsed his gubernatorial bid.
In a sharp counter-reaction from the party secretary general, ODM clarified that whoever Dr. Khalwale had purported to meet in the name of ODM representatives, if any, were political imposters who only belong to jail.
The Raila Odinga’s party informed the media that no one from their office was mandated to meet Khalwale anywhere. It described the former senator as a desperate man who had lost clout and now busy chasing for one.
“There has not been any meeting of ODM officials with the former Senator of Kakamega County Dr. Bonny Khalwale. None of our officials in Kakamega has met and endorsed him as he claims on his Twitter handle. Those are imposters,” the party said through a statement.
The Ruto ally had claimed that a section of ODM leaders from Ikolomani had met and endorsed his bid to succeed Governor Wickliffe Oparanya who is serving his second and last term in office.
“This morning, I held a breakfast meeting with Ikolomani North ODM Party leaders. Am so grateful that they took the opportunity to endorse me for Kakamega Governor 2022. Khubele muluchendo,” Khalwale said on Monday January 31.
Kakamega gubernatorial race has since attracted a number of persons among them, former Butere Member of Parliament Amkoa Anangwe, County Assembly Clerk Laban Atemba, Lugari MP Ayub Savula, Deputy Governor Philip Kutima, and Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited Managing Director Mr. Fernandez Baraza.
