Saturday, April 1, 2023 –Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has sharply differed with President William Ruto’s government saying privatisation of State corporations may lead to grabbing on ancestral land.
While addressing residents in Malava, Kakamega County at a thanksgiving service for a number of churches on April 1 at the Silungai Primary school, Dr. Khalwlale charged against government saying privatization of all State corporation was a wrong idea which should not be implemented.
He added that what made people to accept Kenya Kwanza in his Community was the idea to strengthen the sugar industry in the region which has been facing a myriad of challenges and that anything in contrary will lead to a heavy backlash.
“What made Ruto to be accepted here was because of Butali Sugar Company. When I speak about Sugar factories, people listen to me.
“Our companies Nzoia and Mumias Sugar Company….I beg you(Gachagua) as a leader we have 12,500 acres Mumias and 24,500 acres Nzoia and if you privatize this, somebody will run away with our ancestral land.
“We cannot allow this and its not out of disrespect. That is the little left in our home,” he added.
The Senator argued that the only way to strengthen the Sugar sector is by sealing all the importation loopholes of cheap sugar into the country.
Recently, President William Ruto’s Cabinet ratified privatisation of State corporations arguing that it will revamp the collapsing sectors.
This however drew alot of criticism from Kenyans who appeared to differ with the move.
