Wednesday, November 22, 2023 -Kakamega County Senator Dr. Boni Khalwale has taken issue with Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen during the Senate session held today Wednesday November 22.
In a viral video clip shared on major social media platforms today, Khalwale is seen confronting CS Murkomen for answering questions casually even when the matters raised were weighty to the public.
In the session, when Murkomen was appearing before the Senate, he was tasked to explain the worrying state of infrastructural affairs in the country.
Among the infrastructure listed in the agenda list were Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA as well as the incomplete Kakamega Air strip.
Dr. Khalwale, who represents Kakamega County in the Senate, sought answers on how and when residents around the Kakamega Airstrip will be compensated.
“We are shocked as the Senate that a person mandated with running affairs of infrastructure in the country can take us casually like this.“I have raised a serious matter that requires a substantial response, only for the Cabinet Secretary to give it a casual answer,” he complained.
Khalwale explained that President William Ruto had, on diverse dates, visited the county and promised to fast track relocation of residents around the Kakamega Airstrip as well as ensure their compensation in readiness for its expansion.
Unfortunately, todate, there was yet to be any sign of such an exercise despite residents stopping their farming activities in anticipation of being vacated.
On his part, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna who had questions on the JKIA also challenged Murkomen to publicly confess that the government had no adequate plans for all the airports and airstrips around the country.
He claimed that it was the usual political gimmick from the Kenya Kwanza regime.
Murkomen, who visibly struggled to respond to raised issues, used the opportunity to pay a brief visit to Senate Speaker Amason Kingi as well as have a moment with his former colleagues.
He reported that he had a hearty conversation on matters of national interest.
