Monday, June 5, 2023 –Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindikui has promised to assert his authority to make sure cult Kilifi Pastor Paul Mackenzie does not leave police custody.

Fire-spitting Kindiki, on Sunday June 4, firmly stated that Paul Mackenzie had caused too much harm to innocent worshipers at his Shakahola Forest residence and, due to that, government is not going to set him free anytime soon.

Kindiki accused Mackenzie of forcing people to fast to their death, assaulted some and physically murdered many so that they could die with hopes of meeting with Jesus Christ.

“He killed so many people. He used force to hit some to their death. I am praying to God  to keep him around for many years so that he can also stay longer in police cells.

“I am not going to let him free. He will remain under custody for as many years as possible,” Prof Kindiki stated.

Additionally, the government has maintained that regulation of churches is inevitable to prevent another deadly cult similar to the Shakahola tragedy.

Speaking on Sunday, CS Prof Kindiki said, starting Monday, the taskforce established by President William Ruto will begin its sittings after talks with the church and all stakeholders on regulations on the registration of churches.

“The Government will do whatever it can to ensure that never again will the kind of tragedy that occurred at Shakahola never happens again,” Kindiki said.

The CS urged Kenyans to turn up and give their views on church regulations in the country so that sanity can be restored in religious sector.

At least, 242 bodies have so far been unearthed from Shakahola Forest as the case continues to get the attention of Kenyans.

According to a post-mortem examination conducted so far, some of the people were brutally killed with blunt objects while others died of starvation.

On Monday, June 5, the third phase of the exhumation exercise begun. There are about 22 suspected mass graves.

When asked to comment on the matter, the key suspect Paul Mackenzie said he does not have any clue on what is happening at Shakahola and added that he doesn’t understand why he was still being held by police.
