Sunday, March 6, 2022 –Marathon world record holder Eliud Kipchoge clocked 2:02:40 to smash the Tokyo Marathon course after running the fastest ever marathon in Japan on Sunday March 6 morning.
The celebrity marathoner first made a stop at Japanese Capital making his second Olympic title where he was some seven months ago.
The star runner was appearing in the race after the event was postponed due to Covid-19 challenges that were at the peak last year.
He managed to cross the half way mark in 1:01:03 being trailed by a Kenyan compatriot Amos Kipruto and Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola.
Citizen Digital further reported that at the 27km mark, Tola the reigning Valencia Marathon champion dropped off leaving the contest to look like a Kenyan affair as Kipchoge and Kipruto battled for the top honours.
And as it was expected, Kipchoge would however make the decisive move with just six kilometers to go to seal his fourth WMM title.
“I am so proud to win in the streets of Tokyo, where the people have running in their hearts and minds. It’s great to now have won 4 out of the 6 Abbott World Marathon Major races. Finally, I want to say I want this world to unite. My win today is to bring positivity in this world,” said an elated Kipchoge.
Next on the list of Kipchoge’s completion schedule is the New York City Marathon and Boston Marathon which he has set his eyes on with a promise to bag the prize.
