Friday, September 2, 2022 –Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s party officials today have met President-elect William Ruto in a meeting that was organized on Friday September 2.
In what a source privy to the happenings termed as a tactical exit from the political cold, Murungi is said to have send a delegation from his Devolution Empowerment Party DEP who met Ruto at his Karen residence.
The 13 members of DEP held a long meeting with the Kenya Kwanza leader before taking photos outside his house but held on them awaiting an official day to make them public.
“We had tea at Ruto’s Karen residence awaiting the announcement,” a politician who sought anonymity whispered to the Nation Africa.
Ex-Governor Kiraitu who had joined Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja in the election period but trounced with Independent candidate Kawira Mwangaza is apparently joining the William Ruto-led coalition so that to secure a government position in the next government.
Governor-elect Kawira garnered a total of 183,859 votes while his close competitor Mithika Lintuiri of UDA followed with 110,850 votes.
The joining of Murungi is coming barely two days after KANU’s only elected Member of Parliament William Kamket of Tiaty Constituency officially joined Ruto.
