Friday, April 28, 2023 -Government side in the bipartisan talks has now announced its readiness to drop Adan Keynan’s name from the committee talks.
Addressing today Friday April 28 in Nairobi, the faction led by co-chair George Murugara, noted that it was ready to work without Kaynan and equally urged the opposition to also drop West Pokot Member of Parliament David Pkosing name from their membership.
The KK side went ahead to plead with their counterparts in Azimio to come back for the talks instead of going to the streets.
“…We wish to call on our friends to return to the table and we engage BUT it has to be the table NOT the streets,” George Murugara, who is the co-chair of the Kenya Kwanza team said.
This change of heart could be interpreted as a way to woo the opposition into calling off their planned protests following Raila’s return into the country.
The Kenya Kwanza team led by National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee Chairman Muragura has asked Azimio to return to the negotiating table on Tuesday.
Additionally, President William Ruto today promised to use any force possible to stop the planned round two protests by the Azimio.
Speaking in a rally today Friday afternoon, Ruto warned the opposition against their protests which he described as ‘destructive’.
Talks stalled immediately the two sides clashed on the membership of two lawmakers Eldas’ Aden Kaynan and West Pokot’s David Pkosing.
And in their reaction, Azimio La Umoja has declined any meeting convened by Kenya Kwanza and the leadership of Parliament to agree on the resumption of the stalled bipartisan talks.
In a back and forth between the two camps, Raila Odinga’s camp said they will not be ready for the meeting planned for May 2 and, instead, asked their supporters to join them in the protests on the same day.
