Tuesday, January 16, 2034 -Chief Justice Martha Koome has dared Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to go ahead and file a case against alleged judges.
Addressing the media on Monday January 15 outside the Supreme Court in Nairobi, the CJ said, what Gachagua and his boss William Ruto are spewing against the Judiciary remains mere allegations unless they prove it in court.
“I think someone said in the news yesterday one (a petition) will be filed on Thursday. We are ready to receive it even if it comes earlier than Thursday. That is what we do. Even after hours, you can file online and we will receive it the next day.”
In the address, the CJ further noted that JSC was cognisant of complaints by President William Ruto over the conduct of some judges and had since written to him requesting for a meeting. They are yet to receive a response.
“We have written requesting an appointment with His Excellency the President so that we as the Commission can have a dialogue to discuss and find out the real issue,” the CJ added.
Koome’s remarks coming against the backdrop of attacks from the executive.
President William Ruto and his deputy Mr. Gachagua have sustained accusations against members of the bench over corruption to interfere with government policies.
