Saturday, September 16, 2023 –Controversial Trade Cabinet Secretary CS Moses Kuria has made another sad prediction on fuel prices in the country.
Despite public outrage on the cost of living going up by day, the undeterred Kuria has, today Saturday, said by next year, a liter of Super Petrol will be retailing at sh 260.
The former Gatundu Member of Parliament likened this to El Nini rains which cannot be stopped by anyone whenever they arrive and asked the country to brave itself for the series of calamities.
“I repeat. Petrol will be 260 sh by February. And El Nino is coming in 3 weeks that will last till March. These are global and climate change driven. Responsible leaders ought to tell the truth to prepare the people. You can throw stones at me all you want,” he said in a new statement on Saturday.
He also challenged those dissatisfied over the historic fuel price hike in Kenya to, instead, drill their own fuel wells at their homes.
“Sasa ukishinda ukisema bei ya mafuta imeongezeka kutoka asubuhi hadi jioni, si uchimbe kisima yako (I see Kenyans on Twitter complaining about the high cost of fuel. Why don’t they drill their own oil?” CS Moses Kuria added.
But Kenyans who came across his remarks urged him to treat the public with some respect as this prediction is not the right one at the time the shilling was quickly losing value in the global market.
“As a leader, it’s wise to give some hope once in a while. For example, you could tweet in this manner: We hear your concerns about fuel prices and are committed as government to finding a sustainable solution as soon as possible,” Miss Rono replied.
One Yator noted that the CS was exuding open arrogance instead of demonstrating maturity in leadership as he holds high office in the current Ruto government.
“For once you’re not mentioning Raila, Uhuru and Mama Ngina. Mheshimiwa your arrogance stinks to the core… Are you really telling us you’ll be sitting there and watching prices go up to 261 and doing nothing? Yator posed.
This back and forth between government and the people coming just hours after Energy Cabinet Secretary CS Davis Chirchir said their government can nolonger save the situation.
Chirchir was speaking when he appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Friday September 15 to shed more light on the fuel prices in the country.
Opposition which issued its statement on the state of affairs in the country yesterday, said no amount of free or subsidized fertilizer will help ease the cost of living for Kenyans unless fuel prices are cut downwards.
Raila Odinga warned that should President William Ruto not run with speed to save Kenyans from poor leadership, he may soon face the same fate that has befallen other heads of States around Africa.
