Saturday, September 30, 2023 –Lawyers have ganged up against Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome over his corruption confession.
Just moments after Koome reported publicly that there was a lot of corruption going on in the police service, Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi now asks hard questions to the police boss.
“How many officers came to your office to give you something. Give the names and ranks of the officers who came to your office to give you something?” he started.
The lawyer also challenged Koome to publish the exact dates the said junior officers came to his office seeking to share with him the loot stolen from the public.
“Give the dates these officers came to your office to give you something. How many officers have you arrested trying to give you something?” he posed further.
The city lawyer also sought to know whether any of the listed persons had been prosecuted or charged in any court of law.
“How many officers are being prosecuted for trying to give you something? If the answer to 4 and 5 is none…when will you tender your resignation? Lawyer Abdullahi asked.
He was reacting to the shocking claims by IG Japhet Koome that the police unit is where corruption thrives as officers are focused on bribe-seeking activities rather than service delivery.
“I can’t lie, corruption is with us as police. This problem is called returns. Where the junior offices are collecting the money and taking it to the corporal, base commander, OCPD and even the county commander. Some have even come to my office trying to give me something but I refused. We must end this. Colleagues, it comes a time when we say enough is enough,” Koome stated in a meeting by police officers days ago.
IG Koome replaced Hillary Mutyambai immediately Kenya Kwanza government was formed following William Ruto’s victory.
Heading to his swearing in at Kasarani Stadium, Ruto who was appearing on a live Tv interview, described Mutyambai as the most incompetent police boss in the history of the country.
He vowed to make drastic immediate changes once he takes power; and that is how he brought in Mr. Japhet Koome.
