Saturday, October 14, 2023 -Law Society of Kenya has send a warning to both Mike Mbuvi Sonko and COTU organization against aiding criminal conducts in the country.
Law Society of Kenya LSK President Eric Theuri, while speaking outside their Nairobi offices today Sunday, said the former governor was hiding a suspect whom he should have handed over to the nearest police station.
The LSK want politicians to keep off Brian’s matter because it encapsulates fraud in the legal fraternity and that he had also obtained a lot of money from members of the public using a false identity.
He described Mwendwa as a fraudster who used another registered advocate’s name to run illegal business in Nairobi and around the country.
“He is a masquerader who, if spotted must be arrested very fast. This is our legal obligation. We saw a video with ex-governor making fun of serious allegations on Mwendwa.
“We wish to notify the former governor that he is now aiding a fugitive by law and if he doesn’t produce the masquerader, he will also be facing a police action,” LSK President stated in their stern statement.
Lawyer Theuri further said, Brian obtained money in legal fees from unsuspecting members of the society by pretending to be a practicing lawyer; which monies must also form the basis of the criminal case against him.
“He pretended to be an advocate of the High Court and misled clients by taking their money which, in it, is a criminal offence,” LSK said.
Theuri’s statement coming at a time when a number of politicians and leaders in the country had thrown their weight behind the accused Brian.
Mike Sonko said he will help bailout Brian and, if possible, support him complete legal classes in a foreign university; describing him as a brilliant lawyer.
Same sentiments shared by Central Organisation of Trade Union COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli who noted that the skills Mwenda had demonstrated in court ought to be rewarded.
“If, indeed, it’s true that Brian has been practicing law and successfully representing clients in legal matters, we strongly advocate for a fair and transparent examination to test his knowledge, skills, and competencies in the field of law,” Atwoli stated
COTU boss observed that the case of Brian Njagi raises critical questions about the accessibility and inclusivity of professions in Kenya.
Mwendwa has been hiding since his case was exposed to the public with videos showing him run a court proceeding going viral.
