Tuesday, September 5, 2023 –Leaders have continued pouring out their heartfelt condolences to the fallen freedom fighter Field Marshall Muthoni wa Kirima.
Marshall Kirima’s death was made public on Tuesday, September 5, by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who described her as gallant pre-independence fighter.
In his own words, the DP observed that the late Kirima expressed her admiration of the country even after Kenya had attained its historic independence.
“I have woken up to sad news of the passing on of Field Marshall Muthoni Kirima, the gallant freedom fighter who fought side by side with Field Marshall Dedan Kimathi Wachiuri in the Mt. Kenya and Aberdare forests to drive colonialists from our land,” he stated on X platform formerly Twitter.
Gachagua, therefore, seized the opportunity to ask her family to remain strong during this difficult time of mourning and further assured that their government will help in the burial process.
“I join her family and descendants of the Mau Mau war of Liberation in mourning the loss of our Mother Field Marshall Muthoni wa Kirima.
“We remain indebted to these great heroes and heroines for the Sacrifice to liberate our land,” DP mourned in a long statement seen by Homenews.Co.ke.
It is remembered that in April this year, Ms Kirima allowed former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta to shave her years of dreadlocks.
It was established that she had kept the long hairs for not less 70 years as a sign and in the spirit of freedom fighters – the Maumau.
“I had to cut it because it has been a long journey. I started keeping this hair in 1952, and after more than 70 years, I needed to get rid of them. I now feel like a young girl,” Muthoni stated.
Mama Ngina also offered to clear her sh 4.7 million pending bank loan and also bought her a new home.
Her death coming just months after the passing on of a fellow freedom fighter Mukami Kimathi widow to Field Marshall Dedan Kimathi.
Mukami died on May 5 and was buried in a funeral service that was attended by both government and opposition leaders.
