Friday, May 21, 2021 -Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC stands a high chance of overturning the High Court decision on the Building Bridges Initiative.
On that note, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Handshake partner Raila Odinga have reportedly started holding boardroom meetings to strike a deal that will push IEBC to file an appeal that may change the ruling which was issued recently against the Constitutional (amendment) 2020 Bill.
In the historic bare knuckle ruling, the five judge bench also stated that the current electoral agency lacked capacity or quorum to preside over any legal electoral exercise.
Uhuru and Raila, as a result, have been burning midnight oil to come up with a formidable legal team that will see this decision annulled at the Appellate Court level.
Uhuru Kenyatta’s side is led by Attorney General Paul Kihara while Raila’s side brings together, among other brains, his longtime legal adviser Paul Mwangi who will be joined by more high profile legal figures.
“The team will be expanded definitely but we will reveal the names at a later date,” Paul Kihara told the Star.
On the other hand, IEBC is bringing on board Lawyer Waweru Gatonye and former Attorney General Giuthu Muigai.
Well placed sources, have reported that the BBI side has already compiled a list of top lawyers considered the best in the country and who will be reinforced by public officers working behind the scenes.
