Legendary striker Allan Wetende Wanga has completely hunged up his boots from active football. Management has confirmed.
Wanga will nolonger participate in competitive football after his four year stint with the Kakamega-based side HomeBoyz FC.
“Age is catching up with me and I can no longer battle with young energetic players featuring in top-flight football. Besides, I have achieved what any footballer could desire in his sporting career,” Wanga told the press.
Making official confirmation on Tuesday August 31, Team Manager Boniface Imbenzi said Allan is now going to focus on other things including his county government role as a sports director.
“There are those who are retiring like our veteran player Allan Wanga who early in the season indicated to us that immediately the season comes to an end he will quit active football.
“Now that the season has ended, I think he will now be venturing into other matters but inside football although in other levels,” Imbenzi said.
The striker managed to feature for Harambee Stars 12 times before he announced his retirement from International and national football in July 2019. This was after he was omitted from the Harambee Stars new squad for the 2019 African Cup of Nations finals held in Egypt.
At Homeboyz FC, the prolific striker managed 18 scores in the period 2018/19 season what saw him emerge the second best top scorer behind Enosh Ochieng of Ulinzi Stars who had 20 goals.
Homeboyz absorbed Wanga to play the role of an experienced figure in the young team which he did quite well.
