Let’s Meet in the Supreme Court – Gachagua

Chrispen

Wednesday, October 9, 20214 –Lawyers representing embattled Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have given up with MPs and senators and now aim their focus on the Supreme Court.

In his determination to put up a spirited fight to save himself from ouster, the DP, through his lawyers led by Fred Senior Counsel Ngatia and Paul Muite, has announced his resolve to meet his tormentors in court.

This announcement coming just a day after a total of 281 Members of Parliament voted supporting the removal of the DP from office.

Only 44 MPs allied to the DP voted in protest of the motion that has since garnered a huge national interest as the marriage between President William Ruto and his deputy hits rock bottom.

In their new argument, Gachagua’s legal team has pointed out that impeachment of a sitting Deputy President cannot be determined by politics alone.

The team has described the matter as ‘grave’ and which must be settled by a three-judge bench at the Supreme Court.

“It’s not about numbers in the National Assembly. There has to be proof of gross violation of the constitution,” lawyer Paul Muite posited stressing that Article 1 of the Constitution of Kenya bestows all sovereign power to the people of Kenya who elected the president and his deputy.

In earlier reports, the DP was reported to have put together a battery of twenty lawyers who will help mount a strong legal battle against the government side.

This, is aimed at watering down the eleven charges facing him after his relationship with boss deteriorated with an astounding margin.

During his latest press conference held at his Karen residence, Gachagua laughed off those thinking he is planning to resign due to pressure.

He argued that he was elected by a majority 7.2 million voters who must also be involved in his removal if at all he has fallen short of their expectations.
