Wednesday, August 23, 2023 –Assorted important documents and electronics were today, allegedly, recovered from Mr. Wycliffe Oparanya’s residents following Wednesday afternoon police raid.
Officers from the Ethics and Anti-corruption Authority EACC accompanied by those from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI raided Oparanya’s Lang’ata home and that in his rural of Butere in Kakamega County to fetch items they believed had crucial details on graft.
A source also said, Oparanya’s two wives were also arrested in the raid and driven to the Integrity Center for grilling.
And reacting on the arrest, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale listed multimillion worth of documents including 38 Land Title Deeds, 18 County Land Title Deeds among other important items retrieved from the two residences.
“38 Land Title deeds in his name, 18 County Land Title deeds, County vehicle registration plates, two computers, 789 files of contractual documents and contractor names.
“A hunting rifle as well as undisclosed documents in an inbuilt wall safe in his bedroom,” Khalwale listed these items minutes after the raid had been conducted.
A statement from the Azimio leadership led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna who arrived at the Integrity Center questioned why, an hour later, they could not be allowed an access to Mr. Oparanya.
“Just recently, they also wanted to arrest Vihiga County Senator Godfrey Osotsi.
“This is pure political persecution because people from Western Kenya are asking questions about this government,” Mr. Sifuna who is also a lawyer decried.
Also present during the Sifuna-led press briefing were Lawyer Dunstan Omari and embattled Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni.
