Friday, March 10, 2023 –A Nairobi lobby group has taken embattled Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni to the Apex court.
The group filed a case at the Supreme Court against the politician on March 10 Friday arguing that he had contravened what the law requires after an election verdict is delivered in the higher court.
The court papers describe Mr. Kioni as a disrespectful leader out not only to undermine the judiciary but also to misrepresent facts in the public for political reasons.
Uzalendo Institute of Leadership and Democracy, through Lawyer Denis Sang, argued that the Jubilee Party secretary general had acted contrary to the law on a number of occasions and still appeared unremorseful.
“It is the duty of the court not to condone deliberate disobedience of its orders nor waiver from its responsibility to deal decisively and firmly with contemnors,” the lobby group urged in the court.
This case, according to what Homenbews.co.ke writer has seen, is scheduled for mention on Friday March 17, 2023.
Lawyer Sang wants the Supreme Court to stamp its authority and send a warning to anyone making roadside declarations that are contrary to the ruling.
“The court does not, and ought not be seen to make orders in vain; otherwise the court would be exposed to ridicule, and no agency of the constitutional order would then be left in place to serve as a guarantee for legality, and for the rights of all people,” Sang further argued.
This writer has also learnt that Jubilee Party Internal Dispute Resolution Committee on Friday, March 10, suspended the National Delegates Convention NDC which a faction allied to Kioni had organized in order to make sweeping changes to the party’s top leadership.
Kioni and East African Legislative Assembly EALA MP Kanini Kega are embroiled in a leadership wrangle within their Jubilee Party each claiming to be lawful Secretary General.
