Locals Confront Senator Khalwale Over Fuel Prices

Sunday, September 17, 2023 –Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale is trending in a new video in which locals from his backyard are shouting him down over the cost of living in the country.

In the short video clip shared by political commentator and Analyst Herman Manyora on Sunday September 17 morning, locals are seen cutting short Khalwale’s speech – in the middle – as he struggles to explain himself over what is happening in the country.

His attempts to explain what their government is doing to curb the increasing cost of living hit brick wall as locals chanted “petrol… petrol”.

The senator then attempts to explain that, though, the cost of living was hitting the roof top, the William Ruto’s government was busy trying what it could to save the situation.

He also points out that the current regime had brought in electric motorbikes from China to save those being affected by the high cost of fuel from continued suffering.

This statement gets him into another precarious situation as the locals speaking in his own dialect now decide to stop him from playing with their mind.

They can be heard seeking to understand who will give them free electric motorbikes that this government is touting as the best and easy alternative.

“Hizo pikipiki mnasema ni za bure ama za kununua(Are the electric motorbikes free or we will have to again buy?)” they pose.

At that point, Khalwale is completely deflated and has no breath remaining to continue with his address in a roadside rally he had seemingly organised in his Malinya backyard.

Top public figures from the area among them Herman Manyora and Senator Edwin Sifuna quickly picked up the clip and shared it online.

As Manyora sought to know how Khalwale was now feeling at that rate of things, Lawyer Sifuna joked that Kenya Kwanza administration could soon have nowhere to hide, anymore.

This development was unfolding as fuel cost and, in particular, petrol fuel hits sh 200 plus per liter with State officers among them Energy Cabinet Secretary CS Davis Chirchir and his Trade/industrialization counterpart Moses Kuria openly tell off the public over the complain.

For instance, Chirchir told National Assembly’s Energy Committee, days ago(Friday Sep 15), that government can nolonger do anything to  bring down the cost of fuel.

“We are dealing with sovereign governments as suppliers of these products. We are likely going to harder times. There is nothing much we can do about it,” CS Chirchir reported.

Trade CS Kuria, on his Twitter handle, went on a rampage telling Kenyans to drill their own wells if at all they feel the prices of fuel were above their reach.
