Saturday, June 26, 2021 -Joining Parliament in Kenya may require a Degree but this has not been the case. Most MPs who have vied for this position were cleared under unknown circumstances.
Scrutiny now shows that many politicians in the country don’t own Degrees and for a majority they had to fake papers to get cleared.
With raging debate over academic qualifications every MP must have starting 2022, it has emerged that vocal names in public rallies do not have necessary papers required to become an MP or an MCA.
Among these names are Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi who is a diehard supporter of Dr. William Ruto. The controversial legislator doeskin hold a Degree and he publicly boasts about this anyway.
Kimani Ngunjiri from Nakuru is another DP William Ruto’s top ally who is reportedly un educated politician. He is known for his noise in many public rallies.
Further, Bernard Imran Okoth who was recently elected MP Kibra doesn’t have papers according to sources.
In his defense recently, DP William Ruto asked the Independent Electoral Commission to stop harassing none Degree holders saying it lacked logic.
“Today you don’t need a Degree to be Cabinet Secretary, so why should you force MCAs to reach those standards?” he posed in interview with Sophia Wanuna on KTN.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati recently announced that the Degree requirement will be mandatory for both the MCAs and MPs going forward.
Also in this long list of non Degree holders are George Aladwa of Makadara, Junet Mohamed of Suna East, Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama and Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir.
Others are Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, Embakasi West MP George Theuri, nominated senator Christine Zawadi, Bomet Woman rep Joyce Korir, Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire, Garsen MP Guyo Ali Wario, Samburu woman MP Maison Leshoomo and Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi,
More names include – Matungulu MP Stephen Mule, Kaloleni MP Paul Katana, Laikipia North MP Saraha Korere, Kiambu MP Jude Njomo, Nominated MP Maina Kamanda Taita Taveta woman rep Lydia Haika, Teso South MP Geoffrey Omuse, Makueni Woman Rep Rose Museo, Roysambu MP Waihenya Ndirangu, Kilifi Woman Rep Getrude Mbeyu, Embu Woman Rep Jane Njiru and Igembe Central MP Iringo Kubai amongst many more.
