Sunday, August 21, 2022 –Raila Odinga and his opponent President-elect William Ruto have both assembled a battery of lawyers ready to take-on each other at the Supreme Court over the controversial presidential election.
Odinga’s team is led by Senior Counsel James Orengo who is also the current governor Siaya County; while William Ruto has hired express services of Senior Counsel Fred Ngatia.
Ngatia steered the 2013 legal mind that saw President Uhuru Kenyatta successfully defend his victory against Raila Odinga who had moved to the Apex Court with a petition which cited glaring inconsistencies in the whole presidential contest.
Homenews.co.ke has just learnt that Lawyer Orengo will be receiving a backup of other 29 top legal minds among them, former Attorney General Amos Wako who will play the role of official legal advisor.
“I will be going to Nairobi to join the team and look at what they have prepared and if necessary help them make necessary rectifications before they can finally file the case at the registrar,” Wako divulged.
Others in this group include in-coming Kisumu Senator Prof Tom Ojienda and Rarieda Member of Parliament MP-elect Otiende Amollo. Raila’s longtime Lawyer Paul Mwangi will also take part in the exercise.
Moreover, Philip Murgor, Pheroze Norwojee, Makueni Governor-elect Mutula Kilonzo and incoming senator Dan Maanzo will be assisting Odinga claim his perceived victory.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC will be represented by former Attorney-General Githu Muigai who will be backed up by advocates Kamau Karori, Abdikadir Mohamed, Eric Gumbo, Peter Wanyama, and Edwin Mukele.
On the other hand, president-elect William Ruto has assembled a team of lawyers led by Senior Counsel Fred Ngatia who will work hand-in-hand with renowned city lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi, and former Law Society of Kenya LSK president Nelson Havi.
Others in this long list include Ruto’s Chief Agent, Prof Kithure Kindiki, Adrian Kamotho and Collins Kiprono.
It will take only two weeks for the Chief Justice Martha Koome to make a sound determination and give further directives on the bungled 2022 election.
Azimio are praying to the court to either nullify or recount and declare who actually won the presidential throne through an arguement that the exercise was conducted as an event and not as a process as it is always required by law.
Moreover, the lawyers will raise their reservations on the discrepancies in the presidential vote against the votes cast in other elective seats.
