Wednesday, August 2, 2023 –Lawyer PLO Lumumba has lauded President William Ruto’s new way of running government after he locked out two key cabinet secretaries from his meeting.
In the meeting held at the Statehouse on Tuesday August 1, in a session that saw his Cabinet team sign performance contracts, President Ruto blocked Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and his counterpart in trade Moses Kuria from joining the meeting over lateness.
Ruto noted that lateness was not only disrespectful but also a sign that one is not interested in working for the people.
He maintained that an important day of signing performance contract cannot be taken lightly by a section of cabinet and just allow them to go unpunished.
The visibly angry Ruto, therefore, asked for a written apology from those who had arrived late and that this must be done within 24 hours.
“I don’t know whether it is this performance contracts that have been going on for 20 years that many people maybe mistakenly think that it is a ritual and that is why people resort to the old incompetent excuses that there was traffic for them not to be in the most important public function.
“We have a job because we have a contract, if you cannot keep time with your employer you have basically dismissed yourself, it is just as simple as that,” President Ruto added.
Dr. Ruto further explained that he will not listen to traffic jam excuses because traffic issues affect everybody every day in Nairobi.
He wasa supported by his deputy Rigathi Gachagua who wondered where the Cabinet secretaries who arrived late were and what they were doing better than showing up early in a meeting convened by their boss.
”You can’t arrive at an event when the President is already seated. Why would you come late? How do you explain that? Who did you go to see and yet today was the most important day for you to sign contracts?” DP Gachagua said.
And today, reacting to the development, PLO Lumumba who is currently in Tanzania for his Pan African talks, lauded the Kenya’s head of State for taking that firm stand which, he said, will impart discipline in public servants.
Lumumba, though, saying a second chance is necessary, however, faulted the head of State for not sacking such individuals because they may be tempted to repeat the same mistake.
