Wednesday, July 7, 2021 -Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka has accepted impregnating a Bungoma woman who dragged him to court over upkeep.
The woman, Irene Naswa Mutaki, took the State officer to court last month in protest of the fact that he had abandoned her and showed no signs of responsibility. Through her court papers as filed by city lawyer Dunston Omari, she demanded a whopping sh 25 million in total or sh 200,000 per month from the speaker.
But on Wednesday July 7, Lusaka bowed to pressure and finally admitted being the father to the unborn baby.
Lusaka through his lawyer Peter Wanyama asked the court to allow him settle the matter outside courts confirming that he is willing to take care of the child as well as the pre-natal -costs.
Lawyer Omari, confirmed the two parties had held discussions in that regard but yet to come to a final conclusion which may lead to a consent.
The defense lawyer however asked for thirty days to complete the talks saying one week was not enough and was also suspect.
“I don’t think within seven days we will have addressed the pre-birth maintenance issues because there are a couple of issues my client is still engaging the petitioner on such as accommodation expenses with respect to prenatal care which are continuous expenses,” stated.
Lusaka’s lawyer Mr. Wanyama further argued that the complainant wants things done hurriedly because she is expecting Mr. Lusaka to purchase her a home within the same week.
“They are putting us under pressure to say that they need a house within seven days. Who can buy a house within seven days?” Wanyama posed.
But Omari told the court that 30 days was too long and in between that period anything could happen to his client.
Justice Anthony Mrima would then slate July 28 as the mentioning date and when further details on the case will be decided.
