Magoha bans media from entering schools

Wednesday, January 6, 2021 -Ministry of Education led by Prof George Magoha has continued with its onslaught on the media.

On Wednesday January 6th, Magoha while addressing members of the fourth estate wondered why Journalists would be allowed in schools when any other persons including parents, motivational speakers and pastors had been stopped also.

Education Cs Prof George Magoha addressing.

According to the CS, allowing journalists in schools will interfere with Covid-19 updates for the country.

Among the members of the Committee which came up with this recommendation are Education CS Prof George Magoha, CS Joe Mucheru ICT, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, and the Council of Governors CoG.

They ordered County Directors and Regional officers to wake up and bar Journalists trying to access the institutions at the time a lot of learning is supposed to be taking place.

“Watching the news and seeing that the media have unfettered access to schools is worrying. Regional and County Directors warn school heads that the media should not access schools unless given permission,” the directive reads.

Journalists will therefore be required to enter schools only after seeking written permission from the Ministry on Education. No school head will also be allowed to subvert this new directive.

And reacting to the news, Media Council Chief Executive Officer David Omwoyo noted that the move to bar reporters from school was unfounded.

He added that it was right to keep learners and teacher safe but said this should not lead to stopping ‘information’.
