Wednesday, June 15, 2022 –Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala is a man now walking on a tight rope after his coalition ally Boni Khalwale openly abandoned him in the public.
On Tuesday June 14 while the two were holding a joint rally in Matungu area Mumias, Dr. Khalwale who took first to the podium appeared not to be clear on who he is supporting for gubernatorial position in Kakamega County as he mentioned Fernandes Barasa in one of his lines; what did not go well with Senator Malala.
“My people, I am Khalwale. I want you to know that I come from Kakamega, Malala comes from Kakamega and Fernandes from Kakamega County.
“All of us myself, Fernandes and Malala are seeking seats. Weigh us and pick whoever you want for any seat. Choose one who will care for you. Remember Khalwale is the best legislator in Kenya,” he went on.
This saw a shocked Malala quickly climb on the podium, grabbed the microphone from Khalwale to counter the remarks.
He was seen trying hard to water down what Khalwale had just said by urging locals to support his gubernatorial bid.
“What is this one saying now. He is confused. Stop being confused Mr. Khalwale. This is my stronghold. If you have started ‘eating’ from both sides of the political divide, tell us,” Malala charged.
Shortly, Khalwale and his convoy started leaving the venue in a haste as Malala remained behind trying to divert attention from what he(Khalwale) had just told the audience.
In Kakamega County, so far, Mr. Barasa(for governor) and Khalwale(for Sanate) are perceived to be the frontrunners in the 2022 race.
The fight happened when Khalwale and Malala toured Namalasire Village of Namamali Ward in Matungu Constituency where they both drummed up support for their Kenya Kwanza flagbearer Dr. William Ruto.
