Malala Concedes Defeat, Says no Rigging Took Place

Tuesday, August 30, 2022 –Kakamega gubernatorial candidate Cleophas Malala has officially conceded defeat to Fernendes Barasa following the outcome of the August 29 contest.

Speaking to the media from his Kakamega home on Tuesday August 30 afternoon, the Amani National Congress ANC Party politician acknowledged that there was no vote theft and that he was defeated fair and square.

“Hakuna kura iliibiwa, tunapongeza IEBC.

“Today, alongside my Deputy, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, Hon. Benjamin Washiali and my wife, Mrs. Carolyne Malalah, we wish to thank the residents of Kakamega county for believing in our leadership and voting resoundingly for brand Cleo Malalah. I congratulate governor elect,” ANC’s Malala conceded.

Barasa of Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party garnered 192,929 votes against his closest competitor, Malala who got 159, 508 votes.

In his emotional acceptance speech,the governor-elect thanked residents of Kakamega for exercising their democratic right by giving him five years to serve them following the exit of Oparanya.

He promised to make sure all the important projects which had been started around the county by his predecessor are completed.

The ex-KETRACO boss battled it out with five other aspirants – Maendeleo Development Party leader Sam Omukoko, Cyrus Jirongo (UDP), Suleman Sumba (KANU), Austine Opitso, and Michael Osundwa.
