Wednesday, July 5, 2023 –United Democratic Alliance UDA Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala has claimed that he is not being paid any allowance for sitting in the Cabinet.
Addressing this matter ion Spice FM today Wednesday July 5 morning, the former Kakamega Senator refuted claims of receiving any form of sitting allowance from tax payers’ money adding that the only payment he receives is from political parties Funds given to UDA.
He told his hosts on Situation Room show, Eric Latiff, Nduh Okoh and CT Muga, that he only attends the sittings in his capacity as the secretary general of the ruling party, UDA.
Asked why he was allowed to participate in such important sessions before vetting, Mr. Malala noted that this was in-line with the party’s manifesto.
“I attend cabinet meetings as the secretary general of UDA. I don’t get paid by the government to attend cabinet meetings; I am paid by UDA.
“It is in my line of duty to make sure the manifesto is implemented,” he added.
The politician was reacting a day after a petition was filed seeking to bar him(Cleophas Malala), David Ndii, Monica Juma and Harriette Chiggai from sitting in the Cabinet.
The petitioner, Charles Mugabe, argued that the decision to allow the four respondents to attend Cabinet meetings is unconstitutional because they are strangers who are not recognized by the Kenyan Laws.
Mugabe said their continued attendance in the meetings raises serious Constitutional concerns that the court ought to attend to at its earliest convenience.
The four recently took oath of keeping Cabinet secrete what the petitioner claims is also wrong since the Constitution doesn’t stipulate that particular process for such strangers.
Malala is secretary general UDA Party while David Ndii is President’s economic advisor who decamped to Ruto’s side after falling out with the opposition in the last general election campaigns.
